Jazzed Media Starts Production on Bud Shank Documentary

Jazzed Media, a jazz record label and film production company, has started production of a documentary on jazz alto saxophone legend Bud Shank entitled “Against the Tide”.

Bud Shank has been at the forefront of the jazz world since the 1950's, having started his career in the bands of Charlie Barnet and Stan Kenton. Bud joined the Howard Rumsey Lighthouse All Stars in the 1950's and quickly became an integral member of the “West Coast” jazz scene. Bud composed and performed the music for the ground breaking Bruce Brown surfing movies “Slippery When Wet” and “Barefoot Adventure”.

Numerous jazz recordings during the 1950's and 1960's led Bud to a large amount of studio work in Los Angeles during the 1960's and 1970's. During this period Bud performed primarily on both Alto Sax and Flute.

In the 1970's and 1980's Shank joined with Ray Brown, Jeff Hamilton, and Laurindo Almeida to form the world-renowned LA Four, who recorded and toured extensively through the decade.

Bud performed a specially composed concert for jazz alto sax with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the 1980's, and formed the Bud Shank Workshop in Port Townsend, Washington.

Today Bud Shank lives in Tucson, Arizona and continues to perform around the world.

Bud Shank has also appeared on the Jazzed Media CD The Bud Shank Big Band Taking the Long Way Home , and the forthcoming CD Bud Shank/Bill Mays Beyond the Red Door.

Artists appearing on the Jazzed Media label include Phil Woods, Bud Shank, Terry Gibbs, Bill Holman, Bob Florence, Bill Charlap, Brian Lynch, Hubert Laws, Marvin Stamm, Bill Mays, Carl Saunders, Don Menza, Christian Jacob, Scott Whitfield, Andy Martin, Lanny Morgan, Bobby Shew, Irene Kral, Jackie & Roy, Bob Lark, Ron Stout, Jim McNeely, Mel Martin, Benny Carter, Frank Tiberi, and Matt Wilson.
